Masters Scholarships in Ophthalmology, University of Edinburgh, UK -2023

Twelve scholarships are available for students from Africa, Central and South Asia, Caribbean Islands, Pacific Islands, Central and Latin America who have been accepted into the two-year, part-time online ChM (Master of Surgery) in Clinical Ophthalmology program for the academic session 2023-2024. These scholarships aim to support online learning in the field of Ophthalmology and provide opportunities for students from underrepresented regions.

The application deadline for these scholarships is Thursday 1st June 2023, at 23:59 BST.

These scholarships are specifically for pursuing a Masters degree.

There are a total of twelve scholarships available for this program.

Each scholarship will cover the tuition fee for the entire duration of the program and provide funding towards a laptop and internet service. The scholarship is tenable for two academic years, subject to the student’s academic progress.

Eligibility: To qualify for this scholarship, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Be senior trainees/residents/registrars in ophthalmology. Applications from early career ophthalmologists may also be considered.

Eligible Countries: Six scholarships will be awarded to candidates from member countries of The College of Ophthalmology of Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa (COECSA), including Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia. Additionally, six scholarships will be allocated to eligible candidates from the following countries:

Algeria, Colombia, Honduras, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Angola, Comoros, India, Namibia, Sudan, Argentina, Congo, Indonesia, Nepal, Suriname, Azerbaijan, Congo (Democratic Republic), Ivory Coast, Nicaragua, Swaziland, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Kazakhstan, Niger, Tajikistan, Belize, Djibouti, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Benin, East Timor (Timor Leste), Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Thailand, Bolivia, Ecuador, Laos [Lao PDR], Panama, Togo, Botswana, Egypt, Lesotho, Paraguay, Tunisia, Brazil, El Salvador, Liberia, Peru, Turkmenistan, Brunei [Brunei Darussalam], Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Philippines, Uganda, Burkina (Burkina Faso), Eritrea, Madagascar, Rwanda, Ukraine, Burma [Myanmar], Ethiopia, Malawi, Sao Tome and Principe, Uruguay, Burundi, Gabon, Malaysia, Senegal, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Gambia, The, Mali, Seychelles, Venezuela, Cameroon, Ghana, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Vietnam, Cape Verde, Guatemala, Mauritius, Singapore, Zambia, Central African Republic, Guinea, Mexico, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Chad, Guinea-Bissau, Mongolia, South Africa, Chile, Guyana, Morocco, South Sudan.

Applicants from the Caribbean Islands and Pacific Islands are also eligible.

Criteria: The selection process is based on academic merit and the personal statement. In the personal statement, applicants should describe their current contribution to the local and national ophthalmology development plans in their country and how they intend to use the scholarship to further contribute to the development of ophthalmology services. Successful applicants should be committed to working in their country’s ophthalmology service upon completing their studies, utilizing their newly acquired skills to enhance and develop the service. They should also foster clinical and academic collaborations between their country’s medical universities, ophthalmology teaching hospitals, research institutes, and The University of Edinburgh.

How to Apply for Masters Scholarships in Ophthalmology, University of Edinburgh, UK -2023:

  1. Complete an online EUCLID application for the ChM (Master of Surgery) in Clinical Ophthalmology. Instructions for the full application process can be found on the University’s degree finder page.
  2. Await the decision on your application via EUCLID.
  3. If eligible to join the course, you will receive a conditional or unconditional offer, which you must accept before applying for the scholarship.
  4. Apply for the scholarship online through the Scholarships section on the Edinburgh Surgery Online (ESO) website.

Notification: All applicants will be notified of the outcome by the end of July 2023. Please note that acceptance for admission to the ChM program does not guarantee acceptance for a scholarship. The admission and scholarship applications are separate processes conducted online.
