How to Apply for Fulbright Scholarship 2023?
To apply for a Fulbright scholarship in 2023, please follow the steps below:
(1) Submit an online application.
To apply for the Fulbright program, you must gather a variety of materials to help the USEFP assess your qualifications. All materials must be submitted with your application.
(2) Create academic transcripts and degrees
All transcripts and degrees from a 4-year undergraduate degree or its equivalent – equivalent programs include international three-year bachelor programs or ACCA. PhD applicants must also submit their MPhil or MS degrees, as well as transcripts. You can also apply while in your final year of undergraduate studies, as long as you complete your degree by December of this year.
The USEFP considers your transcripts holistically, not just your GPA. They consider where you went for your education, the courses you took, and your performance in individual courses. They also take into account the fact that different universities have different grading systems. Although there is no minimum GPA required to apply, most successful Fulbright students have strong undergraduate records. Undergraduate academics are only one factor considered by the Fulbright selection committee.
(3) Take the GRE General Test and TOFEL.
When submitting your application, you may include your unofficial GRE score from the day of the test, as well as your official score if you have received it. Every applicant must use the code 9388 to request that ETS send an official score report directly to USEFP. GRE general (international) test scores are required at the time of application. A good GRE score for engineering and sciences is 315+, and a good score for other fields is 310+. The GRE subject test is not required.
The minimum GRE score required to apply for the Fulbright is 138 for verbal and 136 for quantitative. However, accepted applicants typically have GRE scores in the upper percentiles. If you take the GRE multiple times, you may report your best score, and Fulbright will only consider that score. The TOEFL is not required at the time of application submission. If you are called for an interview, you must take the TOEFL exam. IELTS is not acceptable.
(4) Write two essays
The Fulbright application includes two essays. Each essay must be written in the space provided on the application form, which is approximately 800 words. Don’t overthink your essays; instead, write in simple language so that the Fulbright panel, which is unfamiliar with your world, can better understand you. Before you begin writing the essays, you must develop a marketing strategy for yourself. Successful applicants typically spend 4-6 weeks writing and perfecting their essays.
(5) Three letters of recommendation are required.
You must submit three recommendations with your application by the application deadline. You can have three academic reference letters, two professional reference letters, or two academic reference letters. In other words, at least one academic reference letter is required. Your referees must complete the reference forms provided in the application package before signing, stamping, and sealing them in an envelope. When you submit your online application, your referees will receive an email with an online form.
There is no set formula for “who should write your references.” It is also not always possible to request that your employer write your recommendation – USEFP does not want to jeopardize your current position for the application process. Just find people who know you well enough to answer your questions. It could be a former boss, a teacher, or a researcher.
(6) Create an academic resume
A current and up-to-date resume should be submitted in the space provided on the application form. It does not need to be in any particular format. Please read this helpful article on How to Write a Winning Academic CV (Resume) for a Scholarship.
(7) Fill out the online application
The Fulbright program has no application fee. Online applications are required.
You may be invited to a panel interview after your written application has been submitted and reviewed. Interview decisions are made by the middle of September, and interviews are held in October. If you have not heard from USEFP by October, it is assumed that you have not been chosen. The interview is a good predictor of selection, but it does not guarantee admission. A panel of four people conducts the interviews, which last 15 to 30 minutes. You must bring your TOEFL registration slip to the interview, and you are not required to have taken the TOEFL exam by the interview date.
